The Brooklyn Flea

The famous Brooklyn Flea Market started in a school yard a block away.  Famous you ask?  Well, when Martha Stewart claims it to be one of her favorite places, and my mother in NH asks me if I've heard of it, it doesn't get more famous than that.  No tube socks or used make-up here.  For the winter, it is now housed in an historic, and rather phallic, old building - the Williamsburgh Savings Bank that is the centerpiece of the view from our apt.  They kept all the old features (customer counters, mosaic tile ceilings, light fixtures) in the public area, and it makes for a dramatic setting for some fun and tasty, if rather expensive, finds.

Hi

I saw your comment on Nova Scotia Shelagh's blog.

I also live in Brooklyn, but in the southern beach end...been here all my life.

I have yet to go to the flea market..now I think I'll go just to go inside the old bank. We always say it is "giving the finger" to Manhattan..lol

Would i ever LOVE to be so close to such a wonderful flea market. I have so many fleas to sell now, after many years of collecting stuff. Probably if i ever got there though i'd still be buying!

Lorraina - it is fun, and sooo tempting. My favorite inexpensive item is from a lady who takes OLD typewriter keys and turns them into jewelry. I got two pendants with my initials for $10.
